2010 Tesla Roadster Sport first drive

Tesla often emphasizes that it works more like a Silicon Valley technology company than a traditional car company. And the company just proved it by delivering a model update to the Tesla Roadster for 2010. Remember, the Roadster has only been in production for one year, but in that time Tesla completely redesigned the interior, while at the same time adding new materials to reduce cabin noise. Model updates from other automakers often take five years.

We spent a day with the 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport, enjoying its unique driving experience and finding these updates made the previous generation car seem like something hacked together in a garage. Where the previous car had a fussy little lever for putting it in drive, the new car uses push buttons. To check battery statistics and change the drive mode, you had to use a touch screen by your left knee. That touch screen has been moved to the center of the dashboard. And in a real step towards convenience, the Tesla Roadster now comes with a glovebox.

Externally, the casual observer won’t see much difference. The Tesla Roadster uses the same Lotus-sourced body clad in carbon fiber. But the carbon fiber stands out more, as clear-coat panels make up the hood, spoiler, and even the insets in the rear air intakes. The suspension is now adjustable for comfort or sport, and the all-new Sport version of the Roadster uses an upgraded powertrain that rockets it to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, faster than the standard Roadster’s 3.9 second time.

Enviromental Revolutionary Breakthrough

A new concept is on the horizon and has been approximately eight years in the making.  NASA endorsed my idea in its early conception, and their response has been a constant source of encouragement. They also expressed interest in using the device on the shuttle and international space station.  It is an amazing reality that this discovery is close to fifty years behind its time of potential existence.  Honestly and humbly, it will be found to be one of the most significant tools to help us survive the 21st century.  Remarkably enough, this idea birthed a few years before 911, has an extreme impact on our environment, oil usage, health issues, future pollutant tax legislation, and among others.

A couple years into the project, while talking to my wife, I realized the theory was similar to an invention of 115 years ago.  Hundreds of thousands of people depend on this old idea, and it has become a necessary tool in every day life.  Astonishing to me I found another connection, which was the invention of the pump in 600BC (over two thousand years ago and still pushing).  I personally categorize the pump to be one of the top five world-wide inventions of all time, and we wouldn’t last an hour without it.

I’m very pleased to share with you, and hopefully soon the world, that my invention is part of this valuable group.   It fundamentally serves you in the same way and also maintains particular required criterion.  It is a tool that will be used not just by some, but by all people everywhere, several times a day.  I foresee commercial industries using its function thousands of times daily in automated applications.  There are many benefits ahead for homes, businesses, hospitals, schools, restaurants, fast-food chains.  Wherever we are, it will be, and even in outer space.

Detail Xperts Conserve up to 300% in Water

Entrepreneur and engineer Emanuelle Williams is revolutionizing the car wash industry one car at a time. The Detroit based company he founded, Detail Xperts, is greening and mobilizing a new form of car wash that not only uses less water, it uses no toxic chemicals and is safer for both the cars owners and the car wash employees.

Detail Xperts was founded roughly six years ago when Emmanuelle’s son noticed how much water they were using to clean the car. As an engineer specializing in steam turbines and power plants, Emmanuelle started to think of a new way to operate an old business. Instead of the typical car wash, Emmanuelle created a machine that would use steam to clean the outside of the car. His hard work paid off, and Detail Xperts was born.

Emmanuelle’s company uses steam-cleaning machines that can clean fifteen cars with two gallons of water, while the average carwash uses an astounding 40 gallons of water per car. That’s a 300% water savings!  The company also uses no toxic chemicals on either the outside finish or the inside of the car, instead relying on natural lemon based products, and they are in the process of making and branding their own products as the business expands.

While many are aware of the amount of water use that goes into a traditional car wash, not all understand the chemicals that go into cleaning. Many companies use hydrogen fluoride to help polish rims. Chemicals like ammonium biflouride and benzene are also used in different parts of the operation, which are known to cause diseases such as leukemia and depression of the central nervous system.

Not only is the Detail Xperts method safer for those cleaning the car, its actually safer for the car owner as well. The steam cleaning method is so efficient at removing bacteria and other pathogens that Emmanuelle has recently won contracts from local emergency medical services for cleaning of ambulances and other service vehicles.

Since his first test run in 2004, Emmanuelle’s business has steadily been gaining ground. He continues to expand his business through franchise and to promote green entrepreneurship in a changing industry.

Your Story: My CHAMP Family

I have joined the family business. My parents opened the first CHAMP House in 1991 to take care of our neighbors on Cape Cod who were sleeping outside on cold winter nights. Since then, we have helped over 1,400 people with supportive affordable housing and grown into four homes with about 45 people on campus at any given time. I have a lot of brothers and sisters here! Last year I came on board officially as the Associate Director of Housing For All Corporation/CHAMP Homes. My husband has joined us also.

And this is where my story turns green… With the addition of 34 kW of photo-voltaic solar arrays on the main building and the Community Pavilion at the CHAMP campus, we have begun our journey to provide SUSTAINABLE supportive and affordablehousing. This effort was made possible with a grant and third-party ownership. We have taken the Governor’s Clean Energy Challenge and we are taking measures to reduce our Greenhouse gas emissions significantly in the coming years. We had a beautiful organic vegetable garden this season and hope to grow more of our food locally.

CHAMP Homes serves as a model of what is possible. If a small non-profit can achieve harmony with the Biosphere, there is hope for a livable tomorrow!
